I have been involved with horses and ponies most of my life. My involvement with the APSB extends of the same period of time as my first registered pony was a Rivermeade gelding, bred by the late Stan Matheson. My father served on the APSB Vic Branch committee for many years and was greatly involved in the promotion of the society through many branch activities.
I first joined the Vic Branch committee in 1978. During this time, I have held a number of executive positions on both the Victorian and Federal committees. I have also been a member of the Australian Pony Owners and Breeders Association since its inception in 1979.
The APSB is a very unique breed Society and to keep our name to the fore, there is no room for complacency by Committees. Providing correct and up to date information on all aspects of the Society and its regulations is important to members and is a vital area of member service by Committee. I will endeavour to continue to promote the Society and each of the breeds under the umbrella of the APSB to be best of my ability. I will also endeavour to assist Committee and members with any regulation problems to attain a resolution within the structure of the Society's rules, so members can gain the most enjoyment from the ponies and their membership.

I first joined the APSB in 1992 when my then 10yo son had his first "breed" pony, a New Forest. Over the years we have owned various other breeds including Australian, Part-bred Welsh, Riding Ponies and thoroughbreds with success at both Melbourne and Sydney Royals.
When my son moved from horses to city life, I began breeding from his wonderful New Forest mare which we had not been able to part with. For me, a deeper interest in the New Forest breed developed, leading me to become the secretary of the New Forest Pony Owners and Breeders Promotional Group in 2005. From here, I have learnt much about the 'workings' of the APSB, its strengths and its weaknesses, and have become a great believer in the importance of the APSB in the pony scene in Australia. To me, an interest in ponies, be it riding, showing, competing or breeding is a really healthy interest in life. Something to turn to for distraction and enjoyment anytime, but especially when other things are going badly in our world.
I have a strong desire to see the APSB flourish as a respected pony registration body and as a promoter of all 9 pony breeds under its banner. I am aware that we desperately need voluntary workers to help the organisation succeed and at this stage in my life with reduced commitments, I feel I have the time to be able to offer my skills to help the APSB in its support of all 9 pony breeds.
My background outside of this is that I have a Commerce Degree from Melbourne University which I followed up with a Diploma of Education and was a Primary Teacher for most of my working life. Now being retired with my son grown up and my life my own, I feel I have the necessary time and energy to devote to a position on the APSB committee.

My first membership with the APSB was in 1966 following the purchase of the black Australian mare, Green Valley Gipsy, from the late George Freeman. This was followed by other Australian mares from the Chiarini and Bereen studs. In my early days of pony breeding, I was so lucky to have the support of noted pony breeders such as George Freeman, Bert Whelpton, Heather Ronald and Mac Clinton, and this is why I now feel able and willing to give support to the APSB by serving on the Victorian Committee.
From my earliest days, I have ridden ponies, sometimes to school, to hunts and to shows. I am honoured to be a life member of Kangaroo Pony Club where my four children were all members. I believe that the pony club movement is very important to the APSB, as this is where a majority of ponies find their true strength. I have also been a founding member of three Adult Riding Clubs - Kangaroo Ground, Romsey and District and Benalla. The recent inclusion of ponies in open EFA dressage competition is most welcome, as many adults prefer to ride ponies. I believe that the APSB should promote and sponsor even more competition to cater for the growing interest on ponies for all equine sports.
In partnership with Alison and Brian Charlton, we imported several New Forest ponies and established the Pahake stud, now known as Forestway. It was our first quest for bigger, versatile ponies that was the reason to establish the New Forest Breed in Australia. My husband and I compete in harness in combined driving events where ponies comprise about 90% of the entries. We are active members of the Australian Carriage Driving Society. We have also promoted pony showjumping by sponsoring the Forestway Stud pony showjumping competition, and this proved to be a popular event for many years.
I graduated as a physiotherapist in 1962 and I currently am employed as a rehabilitation consultant, where I assist people with disabilities to return to paid work. More recently, I completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Agriculture), with a mix of equine, pasture and animal production subjects. My husband and I have a property near Benalla where we run superfine merinos, beef cattle, grow Lucerne hay and some cropping.
I am concerned for the welfare of all equines and for the promotion of all ponies. The keeping of a stud book is an onerous task but so important for the recording of pedigrees.

I grew up in the Goulburn Valley on a small farm just outside Kyabram. From the age of 4, I have always had a horse or pony around. During my teenage years, I drove my family's trotting horses, rode gallopers track work, went to Pony Club, showed ponies, galloways and hacks and broke in the odd pony now and then.
My first show pony was an Australian Pony. When I outgrew him, I then broke him to harness and raced him in the pony trotting races where he was Victorian Champion a number of times. This is where my first love of the Aussies started.
Once I finished school, I moved to Melbourne for work and spent 8 years down there. During that time, my old hack was always at home waiting for a turn around the paddock.
Moving back home to the Goulburn Valley saw the purchase of a stallion and a couple of mares - all Australian ponies. I also have a Shetland which my 3yo daughter is just starting to ride. Over the last couple of years, I have got back into the showing with a team of young stock starting to fare well.
In 2005, I became Secretary of the Murray Loddon Promotional Group and this has put me right back into the APSB group. I look forward to being an asset to the Society and giving back some of what it has given to me over the years.

I have been on the committee for a few years now, with the last couple as Treasurer. Whilst this has been challenging, I have enjoyed the challenge. My wife Leanne and I have been breeding Shetlands for over 20 years and our interest in APSB ponies has continued to grow and we both understand the importance of offering and being prepared to help as we are able to and asked to. I will continue to raise concerns and issues of all members as they are brought to my attention.

I first joined the APSB in 1976, when I purchased two Australian Pony weanlings. Since that time, I have been involved in led, saddle and harness at local shows, Stud Shows and Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Royal Shows. Over the years, I have shown Shetlands, Welsh and Australian as well as APSB Riding Ponies and APSB Part-Breeds. Currently my daughter and I show Pintos (Part-bred APSB), part Arabians and Miniature Ponies. We have also just acquired another APSB Riding Pony to show and dressage.
Members that attended the 2007 Victorian Stud Show may well have met me in the office over the weekend or talked to me on the phone prior to the show.
I think that all committee members need to work together for the good of the Society and its members. When you are on a Committee, you should not be there to 'paddle your own canoe'. You are there to do what is right by the Society and its members, not necessarily what you want for yourself. I believe that a Society is what the members make it. Member input and support can achieve great results.

I am currently the Secretary of the Shetland Pony Enthusiasts of Victoria and I have shown APSB ponies for many years, originally starting in the Australian pony section and then progressing to the Shetland ponies. We have had the greatest privilege at competing at the highest levels at Royal Shows around Australia. It is with great pride that my family and I show these lovely small, smart and special ponies. We like to encourage the promotion of these very versatile ponies and give my support to the promotion of all APSB ponies.

My involvement with the Australian Pony Stud Book started in my early teens at Green Valley Pony Stud. I grew up showing and learning about the different breeds within the APSB Stud Book.
1992 offered the opportunity to start our own stud, Fernden Park. We breed Shetlands, Australian and Riding Ponies. Our ponies are shown successfully in led, ridden and harness and also attend Pony Club and trail riding groups.
I have been an office bearer in the Victorian Shetland Pony Enthusiasts Group since 1994, performing many tasks within the Group. I have helped when available at the Stud Show over the past 4 years.
I am interested in all breeds of the Stud Book and look forward to promoting these breeds to the wider horse industry.

I established Duidge Miniature and Shetland Stud in 1997 when the last of my big horses were sold. I have had horses for 36 years; starting with my first horse when I was 11 years old. Over the years I have trained pacers and racehorses and have worked on stations mustering stock. I have also been involved in the breeding of thoroughbreds.
I bred my first foal at 13 - a station mare by a part Arab. My riding experience includes doing Pony Club (show jumping, novelties, 3-day eventing), working thoroughbreds and stock work. With my daughter Penny, I am now involved in successfully showing my Shetlands at a number of shows.
I look forward to working to promote each of the breeds within the APSB. I also look forward to the opportunity to use my business skills and knowledge to help and benefit other members through the Victorian Committee.

My family membership of the APSB goes back more than 50 years, in which time we have bred and shown mostly Shetland's , but also Welsh and Australian ponies. We have experienced the highs and lows of the show ring and human nature along the way.
Having served on the Victorian Committee since 1984, I have held all the executive positions at one time or another. With so many new committee members elected last year, I feel it is important to be able to offer guidance based on knowledgeable experience.
I see the participation and involvement of younger members as the future of our breeds and the APSB and I will continue to encourage this. I will, as I have in the past, continue with the ponies and members being my primary consideration.
